The workshop will show how collocations are essential for achieving fluency, comprehension and accuracy as well as sounding natural in both spoken and written communication. We’ll then consider connotations to demonstrate their significance in impacting how a message is perceived via setting the tone and mood of communication, how they can be used to persuade or evoke specific emotions, and how their understanding is crucial for cross-cultural communication. We’ll then explore a range of practical activities that can be utilized in the classroom to teach these concepts across all levels.
